A. pomorum inhabits mainly the southern areas of the krai and damages only apple trees. The beetles start emerging from hibernation at start of bud-swelling time and damage the buds on apple trees. Egg-laying starts within 2 weeks after separation of the buds and lasts 2 weeks. Duration of the stages is as follows: 7-8 days for the eggs, 12-14 days for the larvae, 7-9 days for the pupae. The young beetles do little damage to the leaves. They move under the bark for hibernation in mid-August, rarely under the litter. A. pomorum is more frequently encountered in orchards on the northern slopes, particularly in the center tier of the crown. Semi-cultivated varieties are more subject to injury; Tonkonozhka, Dzhon-Douni (28-55%); Skrizhapel, Tsarski Ship and Titovka are comparatively resistant. A. pomorum does not change the wild Man'chzhurian apple tree and the wild Ussuriisk. pear. Apanteles spurius is its most important parasite. Destruction of beetles and larvae from fungal or bacterial diseases has been observed occasionally.
