Deteccao de Meloidogyne spp em Pfaffia spp no Distrito Federal e Patogenicidade de M javanica a Pfaffia glomerata e P paniculata

, : Deteccao de Meloidogyne spp em Pfaffia spp no Distrito Federal e Patogenicidade de M javanica a Pfaffia glomerata e P paniculata. Nematologia Brasileira 30(2): 159-163

Pfaffia glomerata and P paniculata, better known as " Brazilian Ginseng", are medicinal plants with tonic and anti-cancer properties, respectively. Meloidogynejavanica, M incognita and Meloidogyne sp. were detected in the Federal District of Brazil, causing serious damage to the roots of these plants, where the active medicinal ingredients are stored. Meloidogyne spp. sometimes occurred in mixed populations in field conditions, with predominance of M javanica. The identification of Meloidogyne species was made using isozyme characterization (esterases) and perineal patterns. The objective of this paper was to evaluate the pathogenic ability of Mjavanica in P glomerata and P. paniculata. Two-month old plants of each species (replicated 6 times) received approximately 30,000 eggs of Mjavanica per plant. No inoculated plants were used as control. After a period of 8 months, in greenhouse conditions, the roots were collected, weighed and evaluated for nematode symptoms and reproduction. R glomerata and R paniculata showed high susceptibility to M javanica. The two species presented different reactions to the nematode attack: while P. glomerata showed a great number of galls, P paniculata presented necrosed and enlarged roots. Important differences were observed in fresh weight of roots. For P glomerata the weight was lower in infected roots when compared with the control. For P paniculata, healthy roots presented lower weight. Considering the concentration of ss-ecdisterone'in roots, a significant increase was observed in the plants infected by the nematode, especially for P glomerata.
