Intake, digestibility and performance of beef cattle receiving diets containing urea in different proportions

, : Intake, digestibility and performance of beef cattle receiving diets containing urea in different proportions. Ciencia Animal Brasileira: 3, 552-562

Intake, apparent nutrient digestibility, daily gain, feed conversion and carcass yield in beef cattle fed diets containing 0, 0.5 and 1.5% urea in the total dry matter were determined. 24 Holstein-Friesian x zebu crossbred steers (290 kg body weight) were distributed in a completely randomized design. Sorghum silage was used as roughage, with a 70:30 roughage:concentrate ratio on a dry matter basis. Indigestible acid detergent fibre was used as a marker to determine the faecal excretion.
