The author gives data (from 1955) on after-cropping vetchling and lupine for green manure. The experiment was carried out on the fields of the Kherson State Vegetable Farm. The experiments were in triplicate on areas of 150 m2. The sowing was done Aug. 26 after harvesting spring wheat and plowing the tract. Plowing, undertook place Oct. 2. The total quantity of accumulated plants, including the root remains in the top 30 cm of soil, amounted to 30.7 for vetchling and to 38 metric tons/ha for lupine. The amount of nitrogen applied per ha when these plants were plowed under corresponded to about 40 to 60 metric tons of manure. The slow decomposition of the green plants used as manure in the soil made possible uniform use of the nutrients by plants of crops sown afterwards.
