Magnetic resonance imaging and primary peritoneal drainage in a neonate with perforated necrotizing enterocolitis a case report

, : Magnetic resonance imaging and primary peritoneal drainage in a neonate with perforated necrotizing enterocolitis a case report. Cocuk Sagligi ve Hastaliklari Dergisi 47(1): 53-56, January

Necrotizing enterocolitis is one of the most important and common gastrointestinal tract diseases in premature infants, sometimes requiring surgical treatment. Surgical treatment should be done appropriately at optimal conditions, as other clinical problems of premature infants could interfere with the treatment. The prognosis has a direct correlation with necrosis of the bowel. Thus, noninvasive techniques are still being searched in order to demonstrate necrosis. Here we present a premature infant with necrotizing enterocolitis who developed intestinal perforation and was treated using bedside peritoneal drainage. Magnetic resonance imaging was used to show the intestinal necrosis.
