Natural gas reservoirs are distributed in compact clastic rocks of shallow, medium and deeper layers in West Sichuan. For the shallow-medium and near conventional reservoirs, conventional logging data were used to evaluate techniques for reservoir evaluation using multi-parameter appraisal, apparent formation-water resistivity, and the "neutron dig" effect. For the compact-hyper-compact deeper reservoirs in the Xujiahe area, the techniques of fracture recognition, fracture effective evaluation and reservoir evaluation were also developed based on formation micro-imaging logging, nuclear magnetic logging, and dipole acoustic logging. The key to reservoir evaluation is fracture recognition and the evaluation of fracture effectiveness. Nuclear magnetic logging is an effective method for identifying fluid types. Analysis suggests that special well-logging is not necessary when evaluating shallow-medium reservoirs, but is necessary when evaluating deeper reservoirs. The shortage of techniques for the evaluation of reservoirs and research direction are pointed out. Evaluation methods are especially needed for shallow-medium reservoirs in different areas and horizons. For deeper reservoirs, research on nuclear magnetic logging should be emphasized.
