Exploration potential of the Lyell District, New Zealand

, : Exploration potential of the Lyell District, New Zealand. Annual General Meeting and Conference - The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, New Zealand Branch 41: 443-450

The Lyell district lies north of the Reefton Goldfields, West Coast, New Zealand and is highly prospective for mesothermal/orogenic gold, porphyry systems and intrusion related gold deposits (IRGD). The Lyell district contain ca. 21 historical mines with the largest being Alpine United which produced ca. 80,000 oz of gold. Detailed mapping, soil and rock chip geochemical surveys by Auzex Resources Limited have focused on three main prospects: Lyell (mesothermal Au), Ngakawau (Au-W and IRGD) and Bald Hill (Cu-Mo porphyry). Lyell contains a large scale Au in soil anomaly. Ngakawau contains two areas of interest returning significant Au in rock chip results. Auzex Resources Limited plans to continue exploration around Lyell, Ngakawau and Bald Hill in 2009. Exploration under taken by Auzex Resources has highlighted the potential for IRGD mineralization on the west coast of New Zealand.
