Isotope composition of ground ice from polygonal veins in western Taymyr

, : Isotope composition of ground ice from polygonal veins in western Taymyr. Kriosfera Zemli 13.3

Five coastal exposures along the Yenisei Gulf with thick polygonal ice-wedges have been under investigation from the polar station Sopochnaya Karga (71 degrees 88' N, 82 degrees 68' E) to polar station Dickson (73 degrees 31' N, 80 degrees 34' E). The analysis of stable isotopes (delta O-18, delta D) of polygonal ice has shown that the heaviest isotope composition is characteristic of the Holocene ice-wedges near point Sopochnaya Karga (-19.0 - 23.3 ppm of delta O-18 and -140.0 - 150.0 ppm of delta D). The lightest isotope composition is characteristic of the late Pleistocene ice-wedges near Dickson (-24.3 - 26.8 ppm of delta O-18 and -185.0 - 205.0 ppm of delta D). Results of isotope analysis evidence much colder late Pleistocene conditions of ice-complex and ice-wedge formation in Western Taymyr as compared with modern analogs. The authors' data presented in this paper are in a good agreement with similar investigations conducted previously near point Sablera (Lake Taymyr) and Lake Labaz.
