A second look at the Pomeroy method of tubal sterilization

, : A second look at the Pomeroy method of tubal sterilization. New York State Journal of Medicine 84(4): 157-158

In the 50 years since its initial description, the Pameroy method of tubal sterilization has established itself worldwide as a simple, safe, and sure procedure. The method, entailing a loop in the middle portion of the tube ligated with an absorbale suture and then resected, is readily mastered by 1st-year residents. The minilap Pomerow has made the operation even simpler and shorter, capable of being performed under local anesthesia. The surgical complication rate for the minilap Pomeroy of 0.79% compares favorably with the 2.04% rate for the laparoscopic ring method. In addition, the failure rate for the minilap Pomeroy is 0.3% compared with 0.6% for the laparoscopic ring procedure.
