Clinical trial of sodium levothyroxine in the treatment of hypothyroidism in adults

, : Clinical trial of sodium levothyroxine in the treatment of hypothyroidism in adults. La Semaine des Hopitaux 57(11-12): 567-574

The authors present the results of a clinical trial performed on 44 patients with hypothyroidism. All were treated with L-thyroxine (L-T4) during 6 months. In 39 patients out of the 44 in this trial, clinical and hormonal balance was achieved. Tolerance was excellent and no clinical evidence of overdosage was observed, comprising the 11 patients whose plasma T4 values were slightly exceeding normal values. The optimal substitution dosage most commonly applied, was on the average of 150 micrograms daily. The authors testify their interest in the L-thyroxine (L-T4) because it is the physiological natural hormone, used with a precise dosage. It is the first L-T4 launched in France.
