CIRDAP 2020: a vision for the future

, : CIRDAP 2020: a vision for the future. Cirdap Development Digest: 20-24

This article discusses the future perspectives of the Center on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP) in the year 2020. The CIRDAP, composed of 13 countries from Southeast Asia, focuses on rural development, including the alleviation of poverty, human resource development, infrastructure development, and improving the quality of life of the rural masses. Many interventions, experiments, models, designs, and plans have been made for the improvement of rural development in the past years. The CIRDAP aimed to create strategies and framework for the year 2020 bringing the government, private sectors, and the whole community to actively participate. The model and plans must be based on a holistic approach towards rural development. The development plans are to be made by the people according to the local needs through local initiatives and consultations. However, these plans are subject to changes to suit the particular requirements of CIRDAP member countries.
