Promise in paradise: the International Conference on the Discovery and Clinical Development of Antiretroviral Therapies

, : Promise in paradise: the International Conference on the Discovery and Clinical Development of Antiretroviral Therapies. Journal of the International Association of Physicians in Aids Care 5(4): 9-13

The International Conference on the Discovery and Clinical Development of Antiretroviral Therapies, held in December in the U.S. Virgin Islands, explored the latest advances in antiretroviral treatments. New therapeutic approaches like topical immune modulation and the drug T-20 were discussed, along with issues related to genotypic resistance. First line therapy and the role of protease inhibitor treatment in treatment-naive patients were reviewed in several studies. The safety and efficacy of NRTI-NNRTI triple combination therapies in minimally experienced HIV patients were also described. Other topics included salvage therapy and the reasons for treatment failure.
