Pollen as a vehicle for the escape of engineered genes?

, : Pollen as a vehicle for the escape of engineered genes?. Trends in Ecology & Evolution 3(4): S30-S32

From a brief consideration of published work it is argued that pollen could act as a vehicle for the export of engineered genes from crops to their wild relatives. The spread of these genes in natural populations is thought likely to be rapid if the wild relatives occur even 1 km from the crop and if the gene confers an advantage to the wild species.
